A Large South African Retailer |

Project: |
Measuring the Effectiveness of Leadership Development Intervention |
The Client
Our client was a management consultancy providing strategic leadership development
for a select group of top managers of a well-known blue-chip retailer with stores
across South Africa.
The Problem
The effectiveness of the training intervention was in question, and in addition
the executive management had their doubts as to how effective the managers were
that had been the subject of the leadership development intervention.
The Solution
Soft Craft Research, together with the management consultancy and the client, developed
a 360 assessment questionnaire designed to measure perceptions of the managers’
behaviours and leadership competencies, as viewed by each person’s manager, colleagues,
direct reports and clients. HR provided Soft Craft Research with a list of individuals
to assess each manager. Soft Craft administered the questionnaires, provided HR
with completion figures, and finally individual score cards for each manager.
The Outcome
The feedback was surprising, as the perception of executive management of some managers
was in direct contrast to how they were viewed by a broad group of their colleagues.
In addition, each manager had clearly attained at least a minimum level of competency
in the desired behaviours, attitudes, and management competencies. Furthermore,
the client on seeing the successful outcome, and the highly professional service
provided has subsequently engaged Soft Craft research to conduct additional 360
assessments on other groups of managers.
